A collaborative green initiative led by the Saha Charitable Trust at a sacred site in Varanasi. Jiban Baba, a representative from Odisha, joined local spiritual leaders and residents at the Sitaram Pandit Ghat to perform a ceremonial tree plantation drive. The participants emphasize that planting saplings, such as Neem and Bel, is a spiritual duty necessary for environmental conservation and the well-being of future generations. The speakers advocate for a cultural shift where gifting trees becomes a standard practice for celebrating special life events. By pledging to plant thousands of trees across the region, the group aims to foster a national movement for ecological restoration and sustainability. Through this gathering, they call upon the public to support reforestation efforts as a means of honoring both nature and divinity.
In the Kashi plantation drive, the Saha Charitable Trust is planting several specific species of trees, including:
• Bael (Wood Apple)
• Neem
• Banyan (referred to as ‘Bhoro’ or ‘Bor’ in the source)
• Mango
These species were selected for the drive as part of a larger plan to plant 5,000 trees in the region to benefit both society and the environment
